Volunteering at Winch House is Rewarding
By Carrie Vanderpol (May 2010)
Hello there everyone, my name is Carrie and I have the pleasure of writing the first editorial for our new website.
I started out offering to run computer courses as a hobby and have slowly built up the various courses now available at Winch House for absolute beginners to those looking to refresh their computer skills to get back into the workforce. It has been very rewarding to help our older generation and even those in our 30's and 40's who just missed out on computers at school, to discover what a wonderful world is out there via the internet, email and computers.
It didn't take me long to see there was a "little" need for my admin skills in the office of Winch House, so I began volunteering extra hours each week. My latest roles have been building our new website, publishing the newsletter and typing up display material for all the interesting activities at Winchelsea Community House.
We only have a few paid staff at Winch House with limited hours and funds, so volunteers are vital to keep up the smooth running of Winch House.
"Volunteering has given me a great way to help the community whilst building my self confidence."
If you would like to volunteer in Winchelsea, I highly recommend Winch House as a safe and friendly environment to get started and before you know it you've made friends, your self esteem is growing and you don't want to leave the place seeing how much your positive contribution to the community is helping.
For more information on volunteering at Winch House, see our VOLUNTEERS page.
Whilst researching for our new website, I have found some old photos to share with you of Winchelsea and districts ...
